NAMI Rural Campus Scholarship

The NAMI Rural Campus Scholarship provides scholarship to part-time or full-time undergraduate students in any field of study at any rural campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, excluding the UAF Community and Technical College. The scholarship will also be open to students in any field of study who are interested in education, advocacy, and removal of stigma regarding mental illness, particularly those majoring in the disciplines of counseling, psychology, social work, or similar fields, and who intend to serve the mentally ill.

Requirements: demonstrated motivation, and academic and leadership potential; minimum GPA of 2.0, in good academic standing; enrolled full-time or part-time and attending any rural campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, excluding the UAF Community and Technical College. First preference shall be given to those who have been treated for a serious mental illness. First preference will be given to students in any field who are mental health consumers (i.e. have been treated for a serious mental illness. An applicant selected under the 1st preference must show evidence from a doctor that they have been so treated (confidentiality will be maintained, a brief statement is all that is required.) If enough applicants who have a mental illness have not applied, second preference shall go to students majoring in the disciplines of counseling, psychology, social work, or similar field, who intend to serve the mentally ill. A third preference goes to a family member of a consumer of mental illness services, studying in a any field, who shows promise to serve the mentally ill. A fourth preference is for students in any field of study interested in education, advocacy, and removal of stigma regarding mental illness.
