Smart Mom Engineering Scholarship
Terry J. Gryting returned to college in her 40s to study engineering after working in three other fields. A mother of two, she attended classes part time and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from UAA in 2017.
Gryting said, “It can be difficult, even with a supportive spouse, to take challenging engineering classes while also being a dedicated and involved parent. I created this scholarship to encourage a parent who is studying engineering as a second (or third or fourth) career.”
Gryting now works in water resources engineering and has found this career to be a great fit for her. “I’m thankful for the scholarships I earned as a student that helped me complete my degree, and want to give back so others can do the same,” she said.
