Dorli McWayne

The Barry McWayne Fine Art Photography Scholarship

Dorli McWayne has been principal flutist of the Fairbanks Symphony and Arctic Chamber Orchestras since 1974 and a member of the UAF Music Department faculty since 1981. She has been very involved in the performing arts community in Fairbanks as a performer, director, musical arranger, conductor, instructor, and board member of the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra. She has been on the faculty of the Fairbanks Summer Fine Arts Camp and the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, and is on the faculty of the UAF Summer Music Academy — of which she was the former Director. She has maintained a private flute studio in Fairbanks for over 40 years, and formed an ensemble — The Fairbanks Flutists — which has been presenting concerts for 36 years. Her other interests include gardening under the Midnight Sun and running (year-round in sun or snow). Her accolades as a musician are prolific and prestigious. But her love of the arts extends beyond her professional career. In addition to donating to the UA Museum Practicum Scholarship, Dorli created the Barry McWayne Fine Art Photography Scholarship in honor of her late husband and his passion for that form.
